Terms of hire

1. Hire agreement

These terms apply to all plant hired from Northern Edge Plant & Construction Ltd. A hire begins when the machine is delivered or collected by the hirer and ends when it is returned to our possession.

2. Competence and safe use

On self-drive hire the hirer confirms that anyone operating the machine has appropriate training and competence, and will operate it safely and in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

The hirer is responsible for checking the location of underground services before excavating, and for the safety of the site while the machine is there.

3. Insurance

On self-drive hire the hirer is responsible for insuring the machine against loss and damage while it is in their possession. On operated hire the machine and operator are covered by our own insurance.

4. Fuel, condition and return

The hirer supplies fuel during the hire period. Machines should be returned in the condition supplied, allowing for fair wear and tear. Damage beyond fair wear and tear is chargeable.

5. Delivery and collection

Delivery and collection are quoted separately from the hire, based on the site postcode and the distance from our yard, and are confirmed together with the hire cost before booking. The hirer must ensure safe and adequate access, and that a responsible person is present at delivery and collection. See delivery and collection for the site access checklist.

6. Cancellation

Please give as much notice as possible if a booking needs to change. We will always try to accommodate a change of dates.

7. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Subject to that, our liability is limited to the value of the hire.
